Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know I can trust a property management company with one of my largest assets?

Ask how they communicate. Ask how maintenance is handled. Ask about their systems. Ask how they screen applicants, handle money, document property condition and stay current with Maryland landlord-tenant laws. And pay attention to whether they talk only about rent—or about protecting your investment.

At Real Property Management Renowned, we are property owners and real estate investors too. We understand what it means to hand someone the keys to an asset you’ve worked hard to acquire.

Home is everything. We take seriously both the owner’s investment and the resident’s home.

Is hiring a property management company in Maryland worth it?

For many rental property owners, absolutely. Professional property management isn’t simply about collecting rent. It is about protecting your investment, reducing risk, maintaining the property, finding and retaining qualified residents, staying compliant with Maryland landlord-tenant laws, and giving you your time back.

At Real Property Management Renowned, we make renting easy by managing the details of owning a rental property while keeping you informed about the things that matter. Our goal is simple: a well-maintained property, a positive resident experience, and an investment that performs for its owner.

How much does a property management company cost in Maryland?

Property management fees vary by property, services provided, rental rate, and management company. But choosing a property manager based solely on the lowest fee can end up costing you more.

A strong property manager should help protect your rental income, minimize unnecessary vacancy, manage maintenance appropriately, reduce compliance risks, and protect the long-term condition of your investment. At Real Property Management Renowned, we aren’t trying to be the cheapest property management company. We’re focused on delivering the best value and experience.

For us, property management is asset management with a human element. We are transparent about our pricing.

What does a full-service property management company actually do?

A full-service property management company should handle the rental lifecycle—from preparing and marketing your property and screening applicants to lease administration, rent collection, maintenance coordination, inspections, resident communication, renewals, accounting and move-outs.

Real Property Management Renowned provides professional property management for owners who want a hands-off rental property experience without being left in the dark. We put systems, technology and people to work so our owners don’t have to become full-time property managers themselves.

How do you find and screen residents for my Maryland rental property?

Finding a resident is easy. Finding the right resident is our priority.

Our leasing process includes professional marketing, applicant qualification and consistent screening criteria designed to identify qualified residents while complying with applicable fair-housing and Maryland laws.

That compliance matters more than ever. Maryland’s Fair Chance Housing Act took effect October 1, 2026 and places new restrictions on criminal-history screening for housing providers who own or manage five or more Maryland residential units.

Our goal isn’t simply to fill a vacancy quickly. It is to place a qualified resident who is a good fit for the property and set both the owner and resident up for a successful tenancy.

How do you handle repairs and maintenance without costs getting out of control?

Good property management requires knowing the difference between protecting an owner’s money and simply spending as little as possible.

Real Property Management Renowned coordinates maintenance through trusted, licensed professionals, communicates with residents, documents repairs and keeps owners informed based on established approval parameters. We address legitimate maintenance issues promptly because deferred maintenance often becomes expensive maintenance.

We also expect our owners to maintain appropriate reserves. A rental property is an investment, and responsible ownership means being financially prepared to maintain that asset.

What happens if my resident doesn't pay the rent?

When rent isn’t paid, speed, documentation, and consistency matter. We follow established rent-collection procedures, communicate with the resident, issue required notices, and, when necessary, coordinate the appropriate legal process under Maryland law.

We can empathize with someone’s circumstances without failing in our responsibility to the property owner.

Our job is not to make emotional decisions. It is to follow the lease, follow Maryland landlord-tenant law, communicate clearly, and protect the owner’s interests while treating the resident professionally and respectfully.

How much control will I have over my property after hiring a property manager?

It’s still your property and your investment. Our job is to manage it professionally for you.

We set expectations and approval parameters upfront so we can handle the day-to-day details without constantly interrupting you, while still involving you when a decision truly needs your attention.

Real Property Management Renowned is an especially good fit for owners who want to remain informed while trusting their property manager with the authority necessary to actually manage the property.

How do you make sure my Maryland rental property stays legally compliant?

Maryland rental properties can be subject to state and local requirements involving rental licensing, inspections, lead-paint compliance, leases, security deposits, notices, fair housing and other regulations.

For example, most pre-1978 Maryland rental properties must be registered annually with the Maryland Department of the Environment and meet applicable lead-risk-reduction requirements. Department of the Environment in Howard County also requires residential rental units to have a rental housing license before the owner enters into a lease.

Real Property Management Renowned helps owners navigate applicable requirements for properties we manage in Howard County, Baltimore County and Anne Arundel County, so compliance doesn’t become another full-time job.

Can you manage my property if I live outside Maryland?

Yes. Professional property management can be particularly valuable for out-of-state Maryland rental property owners.

Real Property Management Renowned can serve as your local eyes, ears and boots on the ground—coordinating residents, maintenance, inspections, leasing and the day-to-day needs of the property while providing the communication and reporting you need as an owner.

You shouldn’t have to live down the street from your rental property to feel confident about how it is being managed.

How do you protect my rental property's security deposit?

Maryland has very specific security-deposit requirements, and mistakes can be costly. In most circumstances, a residential security deposit cannot exceed one month’s rent. Maryland law also governs where the deposit is maintained, required receipts, interest, move-out procedures and the timeline for returning the deposit or providing an accounting.

Real Property Management Renowned uses established processes, trust accounting and documentation throughout the tenancy and move-out process to help owners meet their obligations and protect everyone’s interests.

This is one of many reasons professional property management is about much more than collecting rent.

What makes Real Property Management Renowned different from other Maryland property management companies?

We aren’t a “collect the rent and forget it” property management company.

Real Property Management Renowned combines the systems and resources of Real Property Management, A Neighborly Company, with local Maryland expertise and a higher-touch owner and resident experience. We serve rental property owners throughout Howard, Baltimore, and Anne Arundel Counties, and Baltimore City, Maryland, with an emphasis on professionally maintained, long-term rental properties.

Our best relationships are with owners who value expertise, communication, quality maintenance, and professional management—and who want the freedom to enjoy the benefits of owning real estate without managing every detail themselves.

Every day your property sits vacant costs you money. Get a free rental assessment — we’ll tell you your market rent in 24 hours.
